Research GuidesConsumer Health
Searching for good consumer health information is difficult because there are many people who want to make money giving out health and medical advice, but not all of them are qualified to do so. Bad medical advice can have severe, even lethal, consequences. Make sure you know where the information is coming from and what qualifications the author(s) have. For web resources, materials coming from government agencies (usually sites with a .gov for a domain) have typically been well researched (make sure they are coming from a legitimate source within the agency, however). For non-government resources, it is a good idea to check and see if the Health on the Net Foundation has evaluated the web page. Look the the HON Code symbol.
